With the unique charm of small water towns located at the south of the lower reaches of the Yangtze River, Jinggang Ancient Town, the state-level historical and cultural town, is visited by numerous tourists in the middle of nights in November. There, many restored scenic spots including the Hongtaifang Brothel Cultural Performance Hall are vividly representing the original flavor of this town.
Located at the junction of Xiangjiang River and Weishui River in Hunan Province, this town was once a prosperous harbor for selling and transporting salt and rice in the Late Qing Dynasty and the Early Republic of China (1898-1919). It also enjoyed the reputation of being “one of China’s four largest rice markets”. But it was suffering a gradual depression when the boats for transportation were replaced by road vehicles. In September 2008, Changsha City Government launched the all-round protective development of the town to build it an excellent holiday center.
